Shopping for Footwear with Wellness in Mind

In our latest survey, we asked 335 consumers, all of whom described themselves as “walkers,” a variety of questions focused on footwear and foot health, including how they shop. We also asked them about their fitness routines as walkers, and what they wear when they walk. Footwear with a perfect fit is a must for these consumers — 99% said they believe improperly fitted shoes can cause foot problems. Additionally, 26% of our respondents have their feet measured when buying footwear at a brick-and-mortar store, with 27% getting their gait analyzed as well. Insoles are also popular with this demographic — 61% have purchased them to correct foot alignment. When it comes to walking, 93% of respondents said they walked three or more days per week for fitness, and 63% said they were walking more this year than last year. Walking shoes (36%) are a slightly more popular footwear choice for the fitness walkers we surveyed than running shoes (35%).
