In The News: New Balance, Carharrt, Sweaty Betty

New Balance is investing $65 million on an expansion of its current athletic footwear manufacturing factory in Skowhegan, Maine, that will add 200 new jobs and double the factory’s production capabilities through a 120,000- square-foot single-story addition slated to be completed by the end of 2024.

NB Skowhegan currently employs approximately 270 associates producing the brand’s MADE 996, 997, 998, and 1300 shoe models. Including NB Skowhegan, New Balance owns five manufacturing facilities in Maine and Massachusetts where approximately 1,300 U.S. workers prepare, cut, and mold athletic shoe materials and components and then sew, press, and assemble them into the final product.


Carhartt has hired industry veteran Tara Roemke as VP of global merchandising. Most recently, she spent 13 year at Ariat Intl. Previously, she worked for both Levi Strauss and Gap Inc.


Sweaty Betty, the U.K.-based women’s activewear brand owned by Wolverine World Wide, has a new global brand president in Melissa Mullen. Prior, she worked for Nike for eight years in a variety of ecommerce and merchandising roles across Europe, Asia, and North America.
