In The News: Keds, Wolverine, Geox, MICAM Milano

Keds has launched two new styles in its limited edition Decades Collection. Inspired by the glitter-dusted 70s, the Women’s Double Decker Wave Glitter ($54.95) and Demi TRX Mid Metallic Canvas ($79.95) are part of the brand’s larger Decades collection, which is split into three decades for Spring/Summer 2022 (70s, 80s, 90s). There will be 7-8 styles per collection dropping from now through June.


Wolverine is partnering with Walt USA, manufacturer of socks and apparel, to launch a new Wolverine apparel line of durable innerwear and base layer products. Set to launch in Fall ’22, the collection will include men’s innerwear and base layers engineered for comfort and breathability. It will be available in work and outdoor specialty stores, Farm and Fleet, and department stores nationwide as well as Wolverine.com with prices ranging from $24.99 - $44.99.


Geox reported a 7.3 percent constant-currency increase in North American sales in 2021 to €26.8 million ($29.7mm) despite four retail door closures and temporary shutdowns in Canada due to COVID-19 restrictions. Wholesale (+16.2%) and direct online (+20.1%) were particularly strong. For the full year, the Italian brand generated a 14 percent increase in total revenues to €608.9 million ($674.7 mm). Geox, which is forecasting higher margin and profitability improvement in H2/22, raised prices on its spring/summer collection by about 4 percent with the hike on its FW22 collection pegged at 8 percent on average.


MICAM Milano, slated to take place Mar. 13-15, will have several initiatives in place focused on social and environmental sustainability in manufacturing. Among them—the MICAM Green Zone in pavilion 7 that will be divided into a few sectors with each offering more details about a specific aspect of sustainability. They will include the trade organization’s VCS (Verified and Certified Steps) certification system, designed specifically for footwear companies aiming to achieve the highest standards of sustainability. Trademarked VCS is also a software tool providing benchmarks and initiatives that will allow companies to generate or improve their sustainability impact.


PrimaLoft hired Manish Jain as SVP of technology and development. The accomplished research and product development executive was formerly VP of R&D and technology for Crane Company and previously led the material science and process technologies unit for Albany Intl. Corp. where he was responsible for raw material needs, and the new product development group. At Latham, NY-based PrimaLoft, he is replacing Vanessa Mason, SVP of engineering, who is retiring this year.


Champion signed a five-year deal to become the Official On-Field & Sideline Apparel partner of the Premier Lacrosse League. The partnership extends the Hanesbrands-owned company’s one-year contract in the same capacity. The brand intends to fully integrate into the PLL’s youth lacrosse ecosystem through its custom PLL x Champion branded apparel. All participants at PLL Academy camps and clinics will be outfitted in the brand.
