In the News: Oofos, Dick’s Sporting Goods & More

Boston-based  Oofos has signed a strategic partnership with NFL Hall of Famer  Deion Sanders. The former defensive back and return specialist will serve on Oofos’ advisory panel and will introduce the brand to other athletes. Oofos will be Sanders’ exclusive provider of recovery products.  

“This is not a typical ‘endorsement deal,” Oofos president Steve Gallo said in a statement. “I’ve been in the athletic footwear and apparel business for a long time and have never seen an athlete of Deion’s caliber be so interested in becoming involved with a product and company based on his [or] her experience with the product. Deion understands the importance of recovery and how our technology benefits athletes.”


The African American Footwear Forum is hosting “Join the Solution to the Revolution,” a Zoom meeting on Juneteenth, June 19, for Black and brown employees of footwear firms. Hosted by D’Wayne Edwards, founder of Pensole Academy, the meeting will discuss issues and solutions both internal and external to create a more diverse future for the industry.


Dick’s Sporting Goods is opening two new brick-and-mortar concepts this month to offer consumers steep discounts on apparel, footwear and equipment. There will be three OVERTIME by Dick’s Sporting Goods stores. The doors in Plainville, CT; Hagerstown, MD and Philadelphia will offer up to 75 percent discount on key branded products. Meanwhile, five DICK’s Sporting Goods Warehouse locations in Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will offer discounts of up to 90 percent in a pop-up style shopping experience over the next six months.


Runner, Bill Gallagher’s award-winning documentary on marathoner Guor Marial’s journey from Sudanese refugee to Olympian, will have a virtual cinema release beginning June 19.
