In The News: L.L.Bean, Rocky Brands, La Sportiva, PGA Show, Future Proper

L.L.Bean, which has already established new wholesale partnerships for its various products with the likes of Scheels, Staples and Nordstrom, is now selling its classic boot on Amazon-owned Zappos to be followed soon by its Wicked Good slipper and Bean-branded flannels, fleece and outerwear.


Rocky Brands generated nearly 16 percent revenue growth in the third quarter to $77.8 million as wholesale sales rose 19.3 percent and retail was up 11.4 percent. Internet sales rose 50 percent with the Georgia Boot, Rocky and Durango brands each gaining double-digits in sales. Work category revenues increased 20 percent, led by new collections from Georgia Boot. Rocky brand sales were described as solid, helped by new products that included rubber boots. Senior management told analysts that they feel better about the company’s outlook for the remainder of 2020, but also warned of moderating sales trends as consumer pent-up demand continues to fade.


Outdoor footwear brand La Sportiva announced that it is now offering wide sizing. Available in the Nucleo High II GTX and the Ultra Raptor Mid II GTX hiking boots initially, the new wide sizes will accompany traditional widths to appeal to a broader customer base.

Future Proper, a new online boutique for premium men’s activewear brands, launched on Oct. 26 with a dozen labels. Co-founders of the site, thefutureproper.com, which is promising curated collections of contemporary sports activewear, technical goods and training accessories, are Even Dunlop and Adam Levite. Former Amazon executive Marty Keane is an advisor. Initial brands available at Future Proper are: Aeance, Article One, Brandblack, Ciele, Eir NYC, Fourlaps, Kozm, Plus Ultra, Reigning Champ. WOLACO, Houdini and Holden.


Foot Locker is closing all U.S. stores on Thanksgiving, re-opening all locations on Nov. 27, according to a statement issued by Chairman and CEO Dick Johnson this morning.
