Etnies, the 36-year-old skateboard brand, led by owner and skateboarder Pierre Andre Senizergues, has planted more than two million trees, and sequestered nearly 200 million pounds of carbon over the last two decades. The “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree” (BASPAT) initiative began on a small scale in Costa Rica in 2011 before expanding to Brazil and Africa. Now, Etnies is set on reaching three million trees planted though a marketing promotion tied to the brand’s Earth Day pack of three styles (Windrow, Windrow Vulc and Windrow Vulc Mid). For the remainder of 2022, the Lake Forest, CA will continue to plant a tree for every style in pack that is sold and for every Jameson 2 Eco model. Additionally, Etnies is promising to plant a tree for every pair sold on its website from Earth Day (April 22) through May 22 and for every $1 BASPAT sticker sold on etnies.com.
