Boston-based New Balance said it was producing face mask prototypes in its Lawrence, MA factory and hoped to scale production to include its other New England factories soon. “We are coordinating our efforts with our government officials and local medical institutions as well other U.S. consortiums and testing facilities,” the company said in a statement.

Just one week after first offering up its 3D printing capabilities and production facilities to assist in short-term medical supply demand, Ferndale, WA-based Superfeet and sister company Flowbuilt Manufacturing have pivoted from insole production to making life-saving equipment using their 3D printing and manufacturing facilities. Approximately 30,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) masks will be produced and distributed to hospitals in the Pacific Northwest immediately. Superfeet continues to offer its 3D printers and manufacturing capabilities to help combat COVID-19. Medical facilities in need of personal protective equipment, can reach out to covidresponse@superfeet.com to see if Superfeet can be of assistance.

Sports merchandising giant Fanatics is repurposing a factory in Pennsylvania that it uses to make Major League Baseball jerseys into a facility that makes masks and gowns. The company says it intends to produce at least one million masks and hospital gowns, made with the same material as MLB jerseys,  to be given to healthcare workers and emergency personnel who need it in the fight against COVID-19.

Seattle-based outdoor brand Outdoor Research is converting its onshore manufacturing facility in Seattle to produce Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the medical community in response to the COVID-19 crisis. This will enable Outdoor Research to produce upwards of 200,000 masks per day. Over the past month, the company has invested in high-speed equipment and employee training that will enable it to make 140,00 surgical masks per day in April/May; 50,000 N95 respirator masks per day by May/June; and thousands of fabric face masks per day immediately.
