Black Creek Outfitters to Liquidate After 39 Years

Jacksonville, FL-based outdoor retailer Black Creek Outfitters, owned and operated by Joe Butler III, will commence a going-out-of-business sale tomorrow (Feb. 3). It follows the conclusion of a family sale of its lakeside retail property that began in Sep. 2021.
“We chose to sell the building and property last September but were unable to find a new spot in Jacksonville that would allow us to continue with the same level of service we have provided for the last 25 years,” commented Joe Butler III.

Black Creek Outfitters was born in 1983 as Windsurfing Orange Park by Helen and Joe Butler, Jr. The business began early in the windsurfing boom and later tapped into skateboarding and rollerblading trends. The business was initially an add-on storefront to the family’s board shop and reflected the Butler’s increasing time exploring in the western North Carolina mountains. The entire business was renamed Black Creek Outfitters after the Butler Family bought their lakeside location in 1996.
