When it comes to pickleball, these brands and products are ready to play.
The Volley Zone, $110, is FILA’s performance pickleball shoe. It was developed for pickleball players, by pickleball players, and incorporates many features of the Axilus 2 Energized, one of FILA’s most popular performance tennis shoes. Like the Axilus, the Volley Zone aims to merge comfort, performance and style in a lightweight product that is perfect for players of all ages and skill levels.
The Volley Zone incorporates a unique pivot point system on the outsole for added traction to meet the needs of the quick footwork in pickleball. Additionally, the Volley Zone’s mesh upper makes the shoe lighter than a traditional court shoe while still keeping enhanced durability. A special FILA pickleball logo on the tongue of the Volley Zone gives the shoe a unique touch — something that the brand says is important among the pickleball demographic.
FILA says it continues to see incredible growth and opportunity in the pickleball market, led by significant growth in footwear sales. The brand reports seeing strong double-digit increases year-over-year since 2020. In addition to product, FILA is the Official Athletic Apparel and Footwear Supplier of the Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championships; FILA serves as the Official Athletic Apparel and Footwear Supplier of the Pro Pickleball Association (PPA); and FILA currently sponsors three professional pickleball athletes — Lucy Kovalova, Leigh Waters and her 15-year-old daughter, Anna Leigh Waters.
The $95 Viper Court, the first pickleball shoe from Skechers, brings the brand’s signature comfort and innovation to the court. It provides responsive performance in a breathable, lightweight design. And it has the enhanced grip and stability of a Goodyear rubber outsole paired with a shock-absorbing Arch Fit insole — delivering comfort and support, match after match.
“With our experience and heritage developing running, golf and walking shoes, we see pickleball as an opportunity to leverage our award-winning performance innovations into a new pillar of sport,” says Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers. “Not only does pickleball offer incredible opportunity for Skechers as a fast-growing sport, it also has a multi-generational appeal that’s ideal for our position as the third largest athletic footwear brand in the world. It’s easy to learn and fun to play, so new and experienced players will see the benefit in our signature advanced comfort technologies on the court.”
Skechers is committed to supporting the growth and momentum of pickleball, and will be the Official Footwear Partner of the APP Tour, MLP, and USA Pickleball in 2023. Plus, the brand will be the Title Sponsor of the Skechers Invitational Summer Championship in partnership with the PPA – August 12 - 14 in Pacific Palisades, CA. Additionally, earlier this year, Skechers signed its first two elite pickleball athletes, Catherine Parenteau and Tyson McGuffin, who compete wearing Skechers Pickleball footwear and Skechers-branded apparel
Prior to the launch of the Viper Court earlier this year, the brand worked directly with athletes who tested the shoes and offered feedback that helped guide the designs. The debut of the shoe was a “phenomenal success,” says Greenberg. He adds, “This is just the start for us, and the national broadcast of the Skechers Invitational will help build awareness that we’re a true player committed to this sport. We continue to get feedback, not only from our pros Catherine Parenteau and Tyson McGuffin, but also other athletes that will inform future styles that will expand our pickleball footwear range with more options for every type of player.”
The VANGUARD 2.0 Midweight paddle from Idaho-based Selkirk Sports is described by the brand as one of its “most technologically advanced” pickleball paddles yet. It is constructed with a proprietary Quantum CarbonFiber Face, which incorporates bi-directional, cross-weave carbon fiber technology designed to achieve a larger sweet spot and longer resonance, along with more consistency, maximum spin, and perfect feel. The X5 Honeycomb Thick Poly Core is built for consistent speed, using advanced polypropylene honeycomb technology. What does that all mean? Basically, the face and core are designed to work together to absorb the vibration from each hit, providing a larger sweet spot and softer feel, while also yielding accelerated velocity. The brand also recently resigned Cammy MacGregor, a former Top 75 professional tennis player on the WTA Tour, to a new a pickleball endorsement deal.
These two new products from Champion Sports are right on target for pickleball.
Recommended for new and seasoned players alike, the Shadow-X Pickleball Paddle is its most versatile yet. Made with a honeycomb core and a solid grip, its lightweight feel allows players a weight:power ratio for maximum control and confidence.
The Rhino Deluxe Pickleball net is versatile and can be used on any flat surface on or off a court. With sturdy four-inch locking wheels, this system offers heavy-duty stable construction and easy portability and a constructed black nylon mesh net with all-round nylon binding and a heavy-duty powder coated steel frame complete the package.
The Pickleball Sock by OS1st is the official sock of both USA Pickleball and the PPA Tour. Available in no-show and crew styles, the sock is built for comfort on and off the court with impact protection, blister prevention, and nano-bamboo charcoal cushion in high-friction areas. The signature cooling top panels provide heat relief and the arch band prevents sheering force during quick movement. It is made in no-show and crew styles.
As a brand, OS1st is dedicated to independent retailers, and works to educate consumers about the brand without selling directly to them. One of OS1st’s greatest assets in that effort, says Stephanie Lee, marketing director, ING Source, is its team of ambassadors – Team OS1st. Within the past year and a half, the brand made a conscious effort to add Pickleball athletes to the roster.
When OS1st first launched the Pickleball Sock, it was sold into sporting goods, country club and pro-shop retailers. But, after bringing a small pickleball display along to footwear and run specialty trade shows, Lee says OS1st quickly learned that there was an interest in serving pickleball players there as well – the same people who shop for comfort footwear or performance running gear have a place on the pickleball court. OS1st has added a pickleball community outreach and marketing kit to its pickleball sock program to assist retailers in establishing or strengthening their connections with local groups and players. As the sport grows, the brand aims to empower retailers to tap into the channel and grow with it.
