Summer Footwear Shopping Trends

The summer season is almost upon us, and most consumers expect to spend as much, or more, than they did on footwear last spring and summer according to our latest survey. The top styles our respondents say they will be purchasing are sandals and flip flops (78%), followed by running shoes (64%) and casual comfort footwear (58%).

While 93% of surveyed consumers tell us they plan to spend as much or more on footwear this spring/summer season as last year, 58% say they will “buy less shoes” if they see the prices of footwear rising.

When asked about sustainability, respondents were split, with 32% saying, “yes,” a brand’s sustainability commitment impacts their purchasing decision, 43% saying it has “somewhat” of an impact, and 25% saying it has “no” impact.

When choosing shoes for all-day wear, the most important trait, according to the consumers we surveyed is comfort, followed by style, with price ranking third on the list.

This survey conducted by MESH01 included 339 respondents, active men and women, aged 18-60.Trend Insight is a feature within Footwear Insight that delivers research conducted on the MESH01 Platform. MESH01 collects data from a select panel of active and outdoor enthusiasts.
