On, Hoka Gain Traction with Teen Consumers

Among all upper income teens, Hoka and On were ranked the fourth and fifth favorite athletic footwear brands in Piper Sandler’s semi-annual Generation Z survey of U.S. teenagers. Among all teenagers, Hoka and On were the 12th and 19th most popular athletic footwear brands.

Nike remains the top brand for all teens in footwear (61%) and apparel (33%), according to the polling of nearly 5,700 U.S. teens across 47 states with an average age of 16.2 years. Within footwear, UGG broke into the Top 10 at seventh and Crocs and Hey Dude were ranked sixth and eighth, respectively. While the Swoosh led the apparel category among teens, lululemon came in as the third most popular label.

Amazon was rated as the No. 1 favorite e-comm site for teens, with Nike, SHEIN, lululemon, and PacSun taking spots No. 2-5. Apple Pay ranked No. 1 for payment apps used by teens within the last month at 39%, followed by Cash App at 25%.

In terms of customer service, communicating via text message is the preferred method for teens, showing the largest multi-year gain. Among all surveyed teens, 87% own an iPhone and 35% own an Apple watch.
