As part of the 2018 Gold Medal Service Awards, retailer Lamey-Wellehan, with six locations across Maine, was recognized with the Hoka One One Community Service Award. The retailer was “honored and pleasantly surprised,” to be recognized, said the retailer’s operations manager Don Stowell. The shop, which was founded in 1914, was recognized for its commitment to its home state.

In presenting the award, Hoka One One’s Al Tunstall praised the retailer’s long-term sustainability efforts, annual shoe drives that get gently worn shoes into the feet of community members that need them, and its Maine Difference program that endows three college students with renewable $1000 scholarships to study the ecology and economy of Maine — which is financed through the cost savings from the store’s sustainability efforts.
